Undoubtedly, the social web is changing the way we work, find information and interact with others – and not surprisingly it’s changing the way that people learn too.
These changes are enormously important in the public sector and our goal is to be part of that conversation.
We were really pleased to host a webinar with Walsall’s Dan Slee and Kate Goodall last week about their Walsall24 tweetathon - 24 hours of live tweeting about what Walsall council does. You can listen to the webinar here and read Dan’s blog post.
In response to demand from the Learning Pool community we have created a series of three special showreels which cover social media including Twitter and blogs.
First in the series of these short showreels is ‘What is Social Media?’. Click play in the window below to find out how Wickstafford Council’s Sue uses social media to engage with service users and colleagues.
Social media is gaining popularity as a integral tool being used by the public sector to engage with citizens.
According to Wikipedia, social media is defined as ‘media for social interaction, using highly accessible and scalable communication techniques. Social media is the use of web-based and mobile technologies to turn communication into interactive dialogue.’
Traditionally it’s been an expensive endeavour with councils spending large amounts on portals, surveys and publications.
At Learning Pool, we’re changing all that with a brand new service that we’ve piloted with our friends at Central Bedfordshire Council.
Let’s Talk Local provides local government with a complete toolkit to help them engage more effectively and increase efficiencies. For more information about Let’s Talk Local, you can access information here, email hello@learningpool.com or call 0207 101 9383.
Please connect with Learning Pool on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, Flickr or simply subscribe to our blog.
Look out for the next showreel in the series, ‘What is Twitter’?
