It’s a sign of how much we’ve grown that we’re now rubbing shoulders with the big boys by exhibiting at this year’s LGA conference in Harrogate.
We’re on stand 68 and early feedback from our man on the ground (Chris Allan) is that the blue piggy banks are trotting off the stand.
Hopefully delegates will appreciate the link between the pigs and the fact that Learning Pool can save you money. Or maybe they’re just looking for something to take back to their kids.
This year’s conference doesn’t have just one main theme. Instead there is a mixed bag of issues reflecting the broad agenda for local government today:
• Big Issues, local solutions
• From recession to recovery
• Maintaining and improving perceptions of a high profile brand
• Care with dignity and respect
• Crime and disorder
• Protecting the most vulnerable
Some of the noteworthy speakers over the three days are:
• Sir Christopher Meyer, former Chair, Press Complaints Commission and ex British Ambassador to the US
• Rachel Lomax, former Deputy governor of the Bank of England
• Ben Page, Ipsos Mori
• Sir Michael Parkinson, Dignity Ambassador
• Richard Taylor, Damilola Taylor Trust
Plus David Cameron, Vince Cable and the new Communities secretary, John Denham in his first major speech to the local government community
The conference is rounded off on Thursday with the Council Worker of the Year Awards 2009 dinner and a chance for delegates, exhibitors and speakers alike to let their hair down.
Please drop by to Stand 68 to say hello and get your own piggy. And follow the action live on Twitter on the #lgaconf conversation.
