Your DLE will evolve over time.  Not just because of the changes and developments you make but also as a result of our DLE upgrade programme.

Your DLE is built using Moodle technology.  Moodle itself is continually developing and we will take the upgrades from them, add them to our own and then pass them on to you. 

And because we're Learning Pool, we also rely on you, our DLE users, to tell us what you want to see improved, fixed or enhanced.  We'll then include these in the next upgrade.

Your DLE upgrades are part of our ongoing commitment to you and are all part of the service.

In December 2009 the following changes were made to your DLE:

Reports
We will be adding new reporting technology to your DLE.  This includes:
  1.  A range of course and DLE usage trend reports
  2.  Improved data mining capability
  3.  User and course search
  4.  Saved reports - reports that you compile and save
  5.  Quick reports - templated reports that we've created for you

My Course Progress
This is a new piece of functionality that replaces the Incomplete/Complete courses block. It lists the user's progress on the courses they have enrolled on or all of the courses in the DLE that they can enrol on.  It also displays the score on quiz activities and whether they have passed or failed.

Ticker Tape
This is a new feature that allows you (the site administrator) to display a ticker message on the home page of their DLE.  You can create and edit up to 4 messages which can be also links.

Themes
These are new DLE designed themes available for managed service customers that can be customised on request.

We have given Learning Pool DLE's a number of upgrades and improvements since they were launched in 2007 (all for free!).

These have included the addition of lots of brand new functionality, upgrades from Moodle itself and a number of fixes - all geared to adding value and improving the Learning Pool DLE experience.

New functionality has included a new report administration tool allowing learners to be notified by email or on-screen about courses started but not yet completed and a license report detailing the number of licenses (limit and currently used) for the overall site and courses.

Other new functionality we've added has allowed administrators to edit the automated email sent to new learners and the ability to show or hide course reports depending on directorate, department and user.

There are 19 moodle modules that you can switch on in your DLE right now, such as:

Assignments:  Allow the teacher to specify a task that requires students to prepare digital content and submit.  Typical assignments include essays, projects and reports.  Grading facilities included.

Chat:  Allows users to have a real time synchronous discussion via the web. 

Forums:  This is where the discussion takes place!  Can be structured in different ways and can include peer rating of each posting.  Postings can include attachments.

Survey:  Provides a number of verified survey instruments that have been found useful in assessing and stimulating online learning.
